Road safety is an important area of public health research
and activity in all motorised countries. With the annual
worldwide road toll around 1,000,000 deaths and many more
serious injuries, road crashes are an important contributor to
early deaths and serious injuries and health problems.
Most Australian jurisdictions have a strong record of
implementing sound, evidence-based road safety programs and, as
a result, have made strong gains in reducing deaths and injuries
- but there is still a long way to go.
