DEALING WITH THE LOSS OF SOMEONE OR A SERIOUS INJURY

Most people know someone who has been involved in a serious crash.  Many people know someone close to them who has been seriously injured or killed in a crash.  The survivors of a crash, and the victim's relatives and friends can suffer their own consequences from the crash and can often benefit from some help from a psychologist.

Although the consequences of a crash are usually not as severe for relatives and friends, it can be tough dealing with the feelings that occur when someone close is hurt, and the loss of someone can be very traumatic.

If you are stuck trying to get over the loss of someone close or if you are having trouble dealing with your own reactions to a friend's or relative's injury in a crash, consulting a Psychologist for help may be a good idea.  The Psychologist will help you work out how your reactions are helping you cope with the loss, how your strong emotions may be having a negative effect on your life, and how you can move forward with your life despite the loss or other feelings you are dealing with.

This is a difficult area of professional practice and you should talk closely to your medical practitioner for advice on who best to talk to, and it is even worth asking your friends if they have any suggestions.  Many people have seen Psychologists and might have some suggestions.  You still need to make sure, however, that the person you choose to worth with has appropriate qualifications and experience, is registered with their State psychologists registration board, and preferable is a member of the Australian Psychological Society.
